Review: Should I visit... Papa Bianco in Faversham?

you cannot beat going down and experiencing the whole shebang in the flesh. It’s a vibe.

Papa Bianco has been quietly leading the charge to make Standard Quay the hippest place in Faversham.

While small boats make their way up and down the Creek, visitors have been heading to Papa’s in their droves since Lockdown, when it moved from cute project into proper pizza purveyors. While the full restaurant is now open, and the kitchen team can now be seen prepping and firing the pizzas into the ovens - some things have always stayed the same.

It feels like a buzzing community -  everyone sitting out on the quay and enjoying quality pizza and a couple of bevvies.

The one-time Corn Exchange building is a stunning space and lends itself to live events - which is right handy as there is live music on every Wednesday and Friday, as well as one offs like the Drag Brunch Bingo - which just add to the energy about the place. But, while the cocktails, wine and even Papa’s house beer might add to the experience, the pizzas are the main event.

From the regular ‘Cheese Pizza’ (inspired by Kevin McAlister from Home Alone), to the ‘Spicy Boi’, through to the ‘Vegan Courgetto’ (made with Violife cheese and In-House Vegan Pesto), the menu has got something for everyone.

On our visit we chose the ‘Meaty’ pizza with the house sauce and cheese blend, topped with fennel, sausage, salami and cured ham. With the fresh dough crisping up nicely, and the toppings staying juicy, they really have nailed it.

The specials are always worth looking out for, and the rosemary salt fries with parmesan and truffle oil are the perfect accompaniment. Papa Bianco does takeaways and local deliveries but, for me, you cannot beat going down and experiencing the whole shebang in the flesh. It’s a vibe.
