World-renowned Champagne producer Taittinger has set up a brand new sparkling wine brand in Kent.

Along with its UK agency and partner Hatch Mansfield, the Taittinger family bought land in Chilham in 2015 and planted the first vines in 2017 - with the first bottle of ‘Domaine Evremond’ now ready for drinking.

With more than 300 acres, the former apple and pear orchard, is named after Charles de Saint-Evremond - said to be the first ambassador of Champagne in England.

The ultra modern winery is dug into the chalky ground with a multiple levels, serving both production and storage, as well as having an eye to become a destination for wine lovers and experience hunters.

The estate was officially opened by Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, alongside Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger on Thursday, before the wine press and us at ‘cene Magazine were taken on a tour of the facility - and a taste of the wine, obviously.

The area was specifically targeted for its terroir and climate being similar to that of the famous French region.

The first bottles go on sale in the spring.
