REVIEW: SAMA nominated Nathan Smith Live

South African rocker plays Ashford’s Coachworks

So what is a SAMA ? Answer The South African equivalent of a Brit Award!

Imagine the surprise then to see a SAMA nominated artist playing live in Ashford’s Coach-works! Well it is by the International Station, but that’s some connection.

Opening for Connor Selby, Nathan Smith more than warmed the crowd he had them cheering his incredible guitar work wonderful vocals and overall charm.

The musicianship he delivered did not go unnoticed to a busy crowd, mixing his own compositions with the odd cover, his version of Radar Love is amazing one man and a guitar, with added percussion from the slaps to the acoustic guitar body that he manipulates so comfortably.

His very catchy compositions, the songs from his album “Here’s too the now“ released on CD and streaming sites and soon to be Vinyl (we Hope) given that he is signed to the Sea Unicorn Label, run by the record store Ashford surely inevitable.

For my part his tracks “Plastic Man” and “Dry Cry Smile” are standouts, the first a driving rhythm to a story of an encounter with a homeless man back in SA, the second an emotive pull on the hearts Strings with some beautiful guitar work.

All this of course is Nathan with an acoustic guitar and a loop pedal. This guy is a must see, and the next time he pops up (I hear that might be soon in Canterbury), go check him out.
