Striking 90-room waterside motel in Dover gets the green light

Dover’s new Marina Curve to include a swimming pool, restaurant, bar and workspace

A new 90-room waterside motel is set to be built as part of the major redevelopment of Dover Western Docks.

The scheme, which has been approved by the district council’s planning committee, will include three blocks of accommodation and be located on Dover’s new Marina Curve.

A separate plan for a swimming pool, restaurant, bar and workspace was also nodded through and will be located on the dockside, too.

Both projects form part of the £250m redevelopment of the area, called the Dover Western Docks Revival and of which the curve plays a key role.

It is being touted as a tool to transform the waterfront, with shops, bars and cafes.

Plans submitted by Electric Motel Company, the firm behind the motel, says the new accommodation will be highly sustainable with all rooms overlooking the marina and harbour, with views towards the beach, castle and White Cliffs.

“It sits alongside the new marina and provides 90 rooms alongside a building containing the reception and restaurant,” the company said.

“The scheme is part of the Dover Western Docks Revival, Dover Harbour Board’s transformed waterfront with a new marina pier and curve to attract a host of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants with Dover's unique backdrop of the harbour, cliffs and castle, helping to create much needed high quality employment opportunities for local people.”

The firm says the proposal consists of three blocks - three and part-four storey - and a two-storey reception and restaurant building.

There will be parking spaces for all rooms and these will have electric car charging points.
