The son of drug lord Pablo Escobar to headline Folkestone Book Festival
The festival returns to Folkestone this November
Creative Folkestone has unveiled a stellar line-up of authors, writers, and thought leaders for the 2024 edition of the Folkestone Book Festival.
Running from Thursday, 14th November to Sunday, 24th November, the festival is curated by the award-winning author and journalist Sophie Haydock.
This year’s programme is set to captivate audiences with a diverse array of voices from across the literary world.
Stand-out names from the latest announcements include Roberto Sendoya Escobar, the son of notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar, who offers a unique perspective of his father with is book ‘FIrst Born - Son of Escobar’, that should not be missed.
There are also talks by John Boyne, the acclaimed author of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Steven Moffat, the celebrated screenwriter behind Doctor Who and Sherlock, and Sally Abé, one of Britain’s most innovative chefs and food writers.

Haydock, who took on the role of curator after a decade in journalism and a celebrated debut novel, The Flames, is passionate about making the festival a space for both established and emerging voices. “We are committed to creating a festival that feels inclusive and vibrant, a beacon during the winter months where people can come together to be inspired by the power of words.”
The 2024 festival will continue its tradition of offering a platform for both literary giants and rising stars. Audiences can look forward to an eclectic mix of events, including panel discussions, author readings, and interactive sessions designed to engage readers of all ages.
Folkestone Book Festival Highlights:
• John Boyne: Best known for his heart-wrenching novel The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Boyne’s appearance at the festival will delve into his latest work, exploring themes of history, identity, and human resilience.
• Roberto Sendoya Escobar: Bringing a gripping narrative from one of history’s most notorious figures, Sendoya Escobar’s talk is set to provide an unparalleled insight into the life of his father, Pablo Escobar, and the lasting impact of his legacy.
• Steven Moffat: The mastermind behind some of television’s most beloved series, Moffat will discuss the art of storytelling in the modern age, drawing on his experiences from the worlds of Doctor Who and Sherlock.
• Sally Abé: Known for her innovative approach to British cuisine, Abé will share her journey from the kitchen to the page, offering culinary enthusiasts a taste of her creative process.
