BITE CLUB - REVIEW: Notorious BRG, The Rooftop, Canterbury
“…you are actively encouraged to lick your fingers while staring at the cathedral - which feels like it should be illegal.”
A short walk from its original site (which still remains), The Rooftop above Canterbury’s Hampton by Hilton is a new branch of Notorious BRG.
The stylish bar has been transformed into a hub for cheeky fun and games - there are shuffleboards and interactive darts booths. So what’s the big deal? Well, with incomparable views of the city below and menu of dirtee dude food, you are actively encouraged to lick your fingers while staring at the cathedral - which feels like it should be illegal.
The Notorious guys are still doing what they do best, slinging top-tier burgers, but this time it’s up high.
Alongside a classic holiday romance Spanish lager Mahou and a naughty Negroni cocktail, we chose the classic self-titled Notorious B.R.G (£12.50) - using locally-sourced beef and topped with seductively melting American cheese, beautifully sour pickles, crispy onions, rouge ketchup and American mustard. It’s a classic for a reason - because it never gets boring!
But to prove we weren’t too chicken to try something new, we went for the El Pollo (£12.50) - a succulent, free-range southern fried chicken breast, strapped with smoked streaky bacon, mature (ooh cheeky!) Cheddar, lettuce, tomato and a smothering of house-made burger sauce - which was clucking delicious. For sides we got loaded with the Chicken and Bacon Ranch Fries (£9.50) - a plump portion of skin-on fries topped with grated Red Leicester, buttermilk ranch dressing, smoked streaky bacon, sliced southern fried chicken and spring onions.
We also had a root around in the Piggy Mac (£9.95) - a bowlful of macaroni pasta, house-made four-cheese (four cheeses, that’s insane!) sauce, slow-cooked, melt-in-the-mouth shredded BBQ pork and smoky BBQ sauce. If you couldn’t tell, we had a lovely time. Filth.
