Southeastern collaborates with local creatives on vibrant new artwork
The works depict popular Kent destinations
Southeastern have commissioned two Kent based artists to create original pieces of art that will be used to help spread awareness of the diverse range of destinations across the county’s rail network, encouraging people to travel to them by train.
The work features the Thanet seaside towns of Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs plus Rochester, Faversham, Whitstable and Canterbury.
Southeastern worked with Broadstairs based illustrator, Lisa McGuinness (also known as Lisa Illustrations) and street artist Catman, known for his iconic work that can be seen across East Kent.
Lisa’s work illustrates life in Thanet in a bright, fun style, featuring familiar landmarks such as Margate Lido and Ramsgate Harbour. The work brings her fascination for people to life through portraiture and storytelling using acrylics, watercolours and ink.
Street artist Catman, known as the Banksy of Kent, studied at The University of Creative Arts Rochester (UCA) and Fine Art at Canterbury UCA. His work for Southeastern captures the energy and spirit of Rochester, Faversham, Whitstable and Canterbury and includes some fun additions such as mischievous rabbits hopping alongside an iconic Kentish oast house.
Nikki Causer, Head of Marketing at Southeastern, said: “There is such a rich artistic heritage across our network with many vibrant creative communities. We want to celebrate this and have begun a programme of artist collaboration, which starts with two Kent based artists who were briefed to create work reflecting the diversity of popular leisure destinations in The Garden of England.
“We were inspired by the popularity of vintage rail posters and asked Lisa and Catman to create something similar, but with a distinctively modern twist, and we are really happy with the outcome.”
The artwork will be used by Southeastern on a variety of promotional materials throughout the summer, posters can be seen at Southeastern stations from May 7th 2024.
