New mural to be unveiled at Margate's The Lido

Margate Soul Festival welcomes Rise Up Residency for a unique artwork

An example of Breeze Yoko’s work

Margate Soul Festival (MSF) and Thanet-based street art collective Rise Up Residency (RUR) have announced an exciting art project that will be unveiled to festival goers on August 3rd and 4th.

The festival, which is coming back for a 22nd year will comprise 19 indoor and outdoor stages including a brand new Sunset Stage down next to the beach, behind The Lido.

RUR have invited artist Breeze Yoko from South Africa to install a large-scale mural to celebrate the festival, which is organised by NewMargate CIC.

The Lido has been a space for local graffiti writers to work on their skills over the years, but this will be the first time that the whole façade of the building has been primed and painted for a single project.

Margate Soul Festival’s ticket holders will be the first to experience Breeze Yoko’s work as part of the regeneration of The Lido building that the festival has instigated.

The promenade behind the Lido (Lower Newgate Prom) will be the new Sunset Stage for MSF, welcoming thousands of visitors to enjoy soul legends like Heatwave and take in Margate’s awesome skies.

This piece will join the existing large scale, environmental themed murals that have been created across Margate.

See the RUR existing murals map for more compelling stories about the ocean.

RUR is also excited to announce that a roster of very local graffiti artists from Thanet and Kent will be adorning the walls with an explosion of colourful letters and characters.

Expect to see works from; CATNEIL – CHU - COPIE – DEAM SAFARI - EKS – GMAN – GUERILLA PEST – JOE DRURY - NOTICE IT – OUTTA-GRAM – PAD 303 – SOUL – VINCENT PUGH
