Where Else turns eight on Saturday 26th September 2026, and Margate’s best-loved grassroots music and community hub is marking the occasion in characteristically generous style.
Eight years of surviving against the odds - against the grain of economic pressure, against the ill winds that batter independent culture in Britain - and WhereElse is still here, still swinging.
To celebrate, the venue has assembled an extraordinary cross-section of its extended family: returning faces in new configurations, and fresh voices that represent the next chapter. Doors open at 5pm for a full evening of live music, with DJs Reggy Brown, Jerry and Lu Kirnon carrying things through from 10pm until late in the bar for a free entry dance party.

DNA TEST
Members of Snapped Ankles, Loggsplitter and the Thurston Moore Group. Part band, part art experiment, DNA Test is what happens when post-punk lineage meets electronic ritual. The trio — Martina Spetlova (Loggsplitter / Facekini), Jem Doulton (Thurston Moore Group / Au Pairs / Melos Kalpa) and Austin (Snapped Ankles / Loggsplitter) — combine live drums, thunderous Latvian Pērkons drum machinery and wild Soma Terra synths with incantatory vocals to build wild grooves inside a living soundscape. Responding to the politics of DNA, borders and belonging, the project questions the logic of origin myths with wit and bite. Serious ideas. Sweaty execution.
FRUIT BAND
Fruit Band is a one piece band comprised of band leader James Gale. Formed what started as a bedroom project has turned into a full fledged force to be reckoned with. Coming off of a great 2025 in which Fruit Band released one album ‘b-sides’ and played extensively around the uk. With a whole cacophony of influences ranging from The Magnetic Fields, Pink Pantheress, Cindy Lee, Clipse, Bad Brains etc. There is no ground James and his Fruit Band will not cover!
MOINA MOIN
Moina is a multimedia artist working across kinetic sculpture, sound, performance and curation, currently based at Goldsmiths University. Her sprawling practice is increasingly bound together by the journey sound can make between the organic and the electronic. A journey made audible in her source-material sound sculptures constructed from clay and water, and how their wobbly voices find space within the regimented rhythms of the electronic world. Known to WhereElse regulars as a founding member of audiovisual duo Mermaid Chunky, Moina’s solo set promises something rare and genuinely transportive.

Margate’s own bright new hope. TBH, are a young band whose presence in the local scene has been making waves, and WhereElse’ birthday gives them one of their biggest platforms yet. Watch this space.
JUMBO SHRIMP
Margate punk’s new shining light. Jumbo Shrimp bring noise, momentum and conviction to the birthday bill — exactly the kind of act Where Else? exists to platform.
BLACKHOUSE HILL
Formed at Canterbury College in spring 2025 by students Sam, Rick, Beau and Joe, Blackhouse Hill won Battle of the Bands within months of forming and have since built a growing live reputation across Thanet and Folkestone. Their debut single ‘Pale Green’ marks their first step into sharing their sound more widely. Kent indie rock’s promising future, live on one of their biggest stages yet.
