Island Projects announces Sheppey's Rose Cottage Summer Open 2024

The National Gallery Art Road Trip also heads to Isle of Sheppey

Island Projects has announced the Rose Cottage Summer Open 2024.

To coincide with the arrival of the National Gallery Art Road Trip in Sheerness (June 20th -30th), Island Projects has curated a special exhibition of contemporary artists who live on or are inspired by the Isle of Sheppey.

Guests will also be able to have a first look at the National Gallery Art Road Trip bus, which will be open next door to the Rose Cottage.

Practising fine artists were invited to submit three works to the Sheppey Summer show exhibition taking place from 14th June - 14th July 2024.

Works are of a range of subject matter, e.g. traditional landscapes which depict the Island and the wider North Kent coastline, or depict local nature & wildlife. This exhibition celebrates the creative talent on and inspired by Sheppey.

The National Gallery is taking art and creativity on the road, and across the nation!

From this May to May 2025, the Gallery's travelling art studio programme, Art Road Trip, is visiting 18 places across the UK including stops in Kent.

Together with local arts organisations the National Gallery will create community-led arts projects and host around two hundred public events, working with thousands of people to bring art and ideas inspired by the National Gallery Collection right to where they live.

Island Projects is a independent non-profit curatorial practice based in Kent which focuses on commissioning contemporary art in unusual public spaces.

Island Project’s work is powered by the belief that astonishingly inventive and thoughtful art can happen anywhere.  Artists are inspired by unusual and eccentric places, and making site-specific works in non-galleries contexts is an exciting act. By inviting local communities to participate and collaborate Island Projects is widely recognized and respected for integrated and successful socially-engaged practice.
