Broadstairs will be the grandstand for the final Tech Race of paddleboarding’s GBSUP National Series.

The Viking Bay Classic is being staged on 16 October 2021 in partnership with Kent Surf School and Kent SUP Racing after the latter was asked by GBSUP (Great Britain Stand Up Paddleboarding) to host the final event of its national Ocean Technical series, including the main race in the morning, end of season prize giving and a surprise activity in the afternoon.

The request fitted with Kent SUP Racing’s goal to introduce national level racing to the county and inspire locals and visitors to paddle some of the county’s best waters, while embracing Kent’s history and culture.

Taking to Instagram GBSUP said: “It’s almost time for our inaugural Viking Bay Classic sup race!
”As part of the #gbsup national series, the ocean tech race will be the season finale and we have lined up a 6km course for the category racing.
”For those new to sup racing the #gbsupchallenge might be for you which takes on a 3km route to give you a first taste of ocean racing.
”A big thanks to our hosts @kentsurfschool who will be helping in the morning and putting on fun activities including Mega SUP racing and Junior races in the afternoon.”

The race starts at 10am from the beach at Viking Bay and will call for participants to paddle in and out of the bay over multiple laps. The event is open to all abilities; to enter page here.
