Boutilliers brewery opens Low Key Taproom in Ashford

The Faversham-based brewer has reopened the Bank Street taproom after it shut during the pandemic

Independent Faversham brewer Boutilliers (@boutilliersbrew) has reopened The Taproom on Ashford’s Bank Street after bringing it back to its former glory.

Director and brewer Drew Harris (aka Drewtillier) got the keys in March and - with help from an online fundraiser - has relaunched the venue under the new name Low Key Taproom (@lowkeytaproom).

The self-confessed beer nerd offered up the chance for people to buy their own bar tab in advance, with some extra bonuses thrown in, to help towards opening costs and cash flow.

He smashed the target of £10,000, meaning they could get the doors open swiftly.

Drew paid tribute to everyone who helped him reach the “inconceivable” figure.

“My promise to you is that I will constantly strive to make the Taproom the most welcoming and fun place to drink in Ashford,” he said. “I intend for our selection to cater for absolutely everyone, not just the craft beer aficionados.”

Boutilliers brewery was originally founded by two former uni mates in 2016 and is based at the back of Macknade (@macknade) in Faversham.

Drew says the former Taproom was the best place for craft beer and one of the best places in Ashford for food.

“But unfortunately times change and the pandemic, amongst other things, forced the doors closed,” he said.

“I am, first and foremost, a man who is very passionate about two things: 1) Good beer and 2) Good places to drink in my hometown.

“So when this opportunity arose to take over one of my absolute favourite Ashford haunts, it felt like fate.”

The doors are now open, with a launch at the weekend featuring a broad range on tap.

Drew says the big hitters from the grand opening were Fruli, @blackirisbrewery, Divine Elements, @saltbeerfactory, Citra and Doki Doki.
