BITE CLUB: Review - Oad Street Food & Crafts, Sittingbourne

“…a destination for lovers of quality food and handmade gifts.”

A little jaunt into the countryside from the old A2 and you will find a tranquil oasis of calm and brunch. With a gaggle of independent makers placed around a central dining forum, Oad Street Food & Crafts has created a destination for lovers of quality food and handmade gifts.

In the courtyard, four bookable domes offer a year-round private dining space for people to celebrate with friends and family; the domes are dressed to the season and make a great space for sharing afternoon tea and medi-platters.

The airy restaurant/cafe is reserved for walk-ins only, with a brunch-first menu available daily until 3pm. There is a buzzing atmosphere of couples and groups, with the sound of the bar serving up coffees, mocktails and cocktails and backing-track calls of ‘service’ from the corner kitchen.

For drinks we opted for the refreshing mocktail Garden Mojito (£6), which offered a blend of citrus and botanicals served over crushed ice with fresh mint, as well as a smooth latte from beans by Drury Coffee in Woolwich (£3.60).

There are some absolute classics, like the Benedict Stack (on locally-made sourdough toast), or the bacon and maple butter pancake and the Oad St Shakshuka.

We decided to go a little bit more lunchie with the Salt Beef Bagel (£12). A generous helping of sliced salt beef served in a soft toasted bagel with Swiss cheese. The sweeter American mustard was offset by the briny dill pickles and homemade sauerkraut. For fans of the New York-style bagel, this was spot on.

We also had the hot honey halloumi version (£12) with a refreshingly large amount of crushed avocado, fresh rocket and chunky pieces of grilled halloumi. Finished with a chilli jam to add a sweet and spicy kick - beautiful.

On the side, we went for the Dirty Tots - a plentiful bowl of fried potato balls, smooth and soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside - topped with spicy diced chorizo, Parmesan and spring onion, plus a stunning sweet chilli mayo. Absolutely banging.
