BITE CLUB: Review - Marleys, Folkestone
It has long been lauded for its breakfasts, working closely with Kentish farmers and producers to keep ingredients fresh and seasonal.
A staple of Folkestone’s Creative Quarter, Marleys was founded by Mark and Charly (yep, you guessed it, that’s where the name comes from) all the way back in 2018.
It has long been lauded for its breakfasts, working closely with Kentish farmers and producers to keep ingredients fresh and seasonal.
So, of course, on our visit we had to take on the Marleys Brekkie - and we were not disappointed.
The Full Kentish (£14.50) has a few of its own quirks, like the famous homemade fluffy buttered crumpet and the beautifully crispy fried potato chunks. They were joined with a proper juicy butcher’s pork sausage and smoked back bacon with free-range fried egg. Warming baked beans were served in a pot with a flavoursome field mushroom and slow-roasted plum tomato.
My guest went for the sweet breakfast option - the maple bacon and honeycomb pancakes (£12.50). A thing of beauty, the soft, airy pancakes are freshly made to order every time. Smothered in a honeycomb butter and the stack topped with homemade sweet candied butcher’s bacon and a helping of sweet and smoky maple-bacon drizzle. Morning sorted!
