Margate Pride returns for its 9th year! Dates and Times for events

What’s happening and where… as Margate Pride adds huge events to programme

Iamges by Dan Pick

Fast becoming a staple in the Margate calendar, Pride returns for its 9th year this August.

With a parade time of midday from the Walpole Bay Lawns, (CT9 3AB), ending in Dreamland, for a day of free fun, everyone is welcome at this joyful, warm hearted, community, art and action led pride celebration.

Margate Pride is an art-led festival that takes place across the whole of August with exhibitions, screenings, residencies and more by local queer artists and the local queer community.

There are activities you can take part in even from now, including bunting making, volunteer socials and the now legendary pride quiz. Follow pride socials, or sign up to the newsletter at margatepride.org.uk

Dreamland: Rally and Mx Margate

Margate Pride has grown immeasurably year-on-year, so holding the big days events at Dreamland makes perfect sense with its huge stage, and capacity for so many folks coming to town to celebrate pride.

The main stage will be taken over by some brilliant activists and queer community leaders, reminding us why pride is so important, including: Shiv, Margate Black Pride, Parental Acceptance, Para Pride, LGSM, Traveller Pride, Queer Refugees Unite and Dyke March.

There will be an upscale of the iconic event Mx Margate, a very queer beauty pageant, a take on the Miss Margate competitions of yesteryear with a fun, queer twist.

There will be celebrity judges and epic performances, this is a moment not to miss.  It is free entry for the whole daytime event, with rides, bars and food stalls open.  Rides at Dreamland are operated on a pay per ride basis.

Youth Pride

This year there will be the first YOUTH PRIDE, which will take place 3-5pm on August 10th at Dreamland in the Hall By The Sea, produced by and for 13-19 year olds. There will be music, shows, crafting, free stuff and a chance to hear more about the Be You Project and other local LGBTQIA+ spaces and resources.  There will be a parent/carer creche in the room, too!

Evening parties

The special Margate Pride evening event at Dreamland is ticketed, and is a huge fabulous drag party, with DJ sets from Jodie Harsh, Raven Mandella, Harry Gay and Amy Zing with performances from Bimini, Chai La They and local drag icons Janet District Council, Dame Jame, Shelly Grotto, Pretzel Cage, and many more CT9 drag superstars!
