Bridgerton returns to Kent for filming of Series 3

The Netflix show has used the county as its backdrop for a second time

Modern period drama Bridgerton has returned for its third series with the first part going live on Netflix last week. But did you know that scenes from the famous show were shot right here in Kent.

Inspired by Julia Quinn’s historic romance novels about a large and powerful family, the show is based around the Bridgertons and their closest acquaintances. Set against the backdrop of Regency England, the series is a saga of love and betrayal. The plot centres around the Bridgerton children as they navigate the marriage mart in high society London.

Bridgerton was adapted for the screen by Chris Van Dusen (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy). The large ensemble cast includes Nicola Coughlan (Harlots (2017), Derry Girls), Luke Thompson (Making Noise Quietly (2019), Dunkirk), Jonathan Bailey (Broadchurch, W1A), Julie Andrews (The Sound of Music), Ruth Gemmell (Penny Dreadful, Fever Pitch) and Adjoa Andoh (Liar , Missing ), as well as many others.

For Series 1, the production visited The Historic Dockyard in Chatham. The exterior of the Ropery and Officer’s Terrace were used as stand ins for various London streets and the Tarred Yarn Store was transformed into a boxing club. No 3 Mezzanine stands in as a venue for a public Boxing match.

Meanwhile, Commissioner’s House Garden stands in as the Bridgerton family garden for several scenes.

Kent Film Office confirmed that production returned to Kent for Series 3, where they filmed the infamous garden party scenes at Squerryes Court in Westerham near Sevenoaks.

Squerryes Court is a beautiful 17th-century manor house surrounded by 20 acres of attractive and historic gardens which include a lake, restored parterres and an 18th century dovecote.

You can catch a glimpse of it in the trailer below.

Series 3 of Bridgerton will be released on Netflix in two parts. Part 1 will drop on Thursday 16th May 2024, with Part 2 to follow on Thursday 13th June 2024.
