bOing! Family Festival returns to Canterbury this weekend
Hip Hop choreography, contemporary circus & giant luminariums!
On 26 & 27 August 2023, the annual bOing! International Family Festival will once again welcome the most innovative and exciting performers from across Europe to Gulbenkian Arts Centre and the beautiful University of Kent campus in Canterbury.
This year audiences are invited to wrap up in bed while Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio from Italy present Buchettino - a magical retelling of the Tom Thumb story; Compagnie Chaliwaté and The Focus Company from Belgium perform Back Up, a journey to the North Pole in the company of a puppet polar bear; and Starcatchers from Scotland bring us Falling Star, a new production for babies, toddlers and their families.
For audiences with complex autism, Barrowland Ballet’s Playful Tiger is a sensory led story of a tiger who turns a family home upside down.
Thousands come to bOing! each year to explore a Luminarium – the giant immersive sculptures by Architects of Air filled with colour and light. This year the Architects bring their Dodecalis, a new Luminarium built around three giant domes.
bOing! is free to enter and festival-goers can enjoy a host of performances for free (indoor performances are ticketed at £6), including the unique fusion of Hip Hop choreography and contemporary circus that Simple Cypher bring in Roll Model.
Oily Cart Company are back at bOing! with The Lost Feather, an outdoor, accessible storytelling session where everyone if part of the action!
There is much more at bOing!, with the Global Sounds Stage programmed in collaboration with Music For Change, the Baby Zone for little ones, creative workshops, films and new for 2023 the FutureProof Zone – with ideas for how we can live in better harmony with our planet.
