THOMAS PICKETT - I STILL WANT US

Insta: @thomaspickett_

We don’t know exactly what he did but, f*ck, it must have been bad enough for Canterbury’s Thomas Pickett to pen his beautiful, sorrow-filled apology track ‘I still want us’, and release it as his debut single.

Accompanied only by the despairing keys of a piano, Thomas’ soaring vocals tell of his anguish and suffering since committing his act.

“I did it, I did it, I threw your love away,” he sings, and we are kind of glad, because he has created a new ramp on the classic ’break-up’ song.

The track was produced by Canterbury’s Jude Ness (@judeness.official) and Witness Records (@witnessRecordsUK). Tears.

LAUGHING WATER - SILENT RAIN

After two years of studio sweat, Margate’s Laughing Water has released debut EP Silent Rain.

Real name Justin Goodban has come to the fore with an brilliantly blended mix of Liquid Drum n Bass, Prog Rock and Trip Hop. Title track ‘Silent Rain’, displays the marriage perfectly, opening up with keys and synth dropping into the steady and energetic d’n’b beat backed by some progressive guitar noodling.

Laughing Water is a producer and multi-Instrumentalist influenced by Aphex Twin, Goldie, Keeno Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Portishead and Dj Shadow, while his prog influences are from artists like Pink Floyd and Mike Oldfield and play into the improvised guitar and keyboard sections in each track. Original.

Y-ZER - DIFFERENTLY

Off brand new EP ‘Doing it Differently’, Kent MC Y-Zer has popped straight off in 2022 with new single ‘Differently’.

Produced by Gravesend’s Corrupted Mind, it’s a must-hear for Jump Up heads - that bass is gonna’ do some damage.

The lyrics show off the reason why Y-zer is quickly finding her way on to D’n’B playlists across the genre. Equally versatile with her voice, having both provided melodies for previous tracks like ‘Path’ as well as straight, fast-paced MCing, as in this case, if you haven’t heard if Y-Zer, you have now. Fresh.

KID KAPICHI - NEW ENGLAND, FT. BOB VYLAN

Insta @kidkapichi / @bobbyvylan

Wow. Energy. Purpose. Truth. Everything we don’t seem to have as a nation right now, wrapped up in a three and half minute package of powerful social commentary.

‘New England’ by Hastings’ Kid Kapachi somehow sums up the anger so many are feeling towards the glutinous gammon bods continuing to drag the country backwards to an era that should stay dead and buried. Foreign policy, BREXIT, fascism and corrupted politics all take hits in a track that is bouncing with rage.

“You’re such a fool Britannia, Britannia you’ve been fooled again,” they sing as the video portrays a sleepwalking, uninterested populace being taken for a political ride, and happily accepting it as long as they’ve got a packet of crisps.

‘cene favourites Bob Vylan (Full Interview) make an explosive appearance on the track which ends on the poignant note, that “you ain’t shut them out, you just locked us in”. Time to wake up.
