New tracks from the most musically productive county in the country right now, writes Rob Hakimian

We have added all tracks to the ‘cene #KeepitKent Spotify Playlist HERE

Yoshe Rose - Go

Artists often decide to introduce themselves with a bang, but Yoshe Rose has done exactly the opposite with her debut single: she goes soft and soulful, and it’s completely magnetic.

Go is a subtle blend of qoozy synths, jazz beats and R&B atmosphere, Rose completely in command, wafting through the track with the grace and potency of a cloud of hookah smoke. Even though she’s singing of a break up here, and her passion and pain are evident in her words, she’s not getting riled up – she’s in her comfort zone, in command, and has us in no doubt that when she says she “had to go / walk out the door,” she knew that she was doing exactly what she needed to do.

Pynch - Karaoke

Pynch may have originated in singer Spencer Enock’s parents’ Ramsgate abode, but their latest single takes place in a much sunnier coastal location: California. Nonetheless, the British gloom seems to have followed him over there, as he finds himself unable to connect with his partner, completely displaced in the false Hollywood facade and “singing karaoke while the sky is falling.”

Paired with zipping and trickling rock, his lovelorn cries have an undeniable charm that makes you want to believe that everything will be alright for him, because, as he says, “we only get to go round once.”

Paige Kennedy - Arthur

Canterbury-based confounder Paige Kennedy turns her singular talents to one of the most pressing matters of our times: how to stay cool in the summer. Her hapless protagonist Arthur tries several methods, including climbing inside an ice box, hiding in the darkness, or shaving his hair off.

It all makes sense in the wacky Kennedy’s cartoony and addictive indie pop sound world. Ultimately, Arthur does manage to get inside the fridge and, wouldn’t you know it, the light stays on! What’s more, his body heat drops below 4 degrees - a useful tip for all those sweaty people out there, which will be all of you after you finish dancing manically to this one.

Issey Cross - Tired of Everybody

Instagram: @isseycross

The Pembury pop purveyor is having a busy year, with several bumping singles already under her belt in 2021 – it’s no wonder she’s so tired. We all know that feeling where we’re just so exhausted that we can’t even be nice to the people around us, which is exactly where Issey is on Tired of Everybody.

However, where most of us will just sleep it off and hope for a better time the next day, the young star has turned it into a polychromatic delight, reminiscent of Charli XCX in its melding of tones and layers – and almost guaranteed to get stuck in your head.

Lives - Sick

Instagram: @peter.lives

Peter Chisholm aka Lives may now be living in Biarritz, but he’s echoing everyone between that coast and this (and beyond) when he opens Sick with the proclamation “I’m sick of all the lines and all that shit.”

This is a protest song, but it’s not punk, it’s straight up guitar funk by way of Lenny Kravitz and Red Hot Chili Peppers, with a bit of Stevie Wonder thrown in. All the better for getting across his message of being at the end of his tether. If you can’t get through to people’s minds, then enter through the body, which is exactly what Lives has done here.
