ERNEST GRAVES - DOOM AND GLOOM
Ernest Graves has successfully dropped his debut single, but he could be a big happier about it. ‘Doom and Gloom’ is a beautiful melee of noodling guitar, blues undertones, emotionally sapped vocals and an occasional twinkling bell.
“It ain’t all doom and gloom”, repeats Ernest (one half of Kent punks The Nghtmrs), in a tone that drives deep into your soul as you scratch your head, trying to work out who he sounds like. Hold on, I will get it in a minute.
BABY - HOW U BEEN?
Hailing from Sevenoaks/Kemsing, Baby (aka Luke Wyatt) has come out of the traps quick with an absolute gem. Track ‘How U Been?’ is a half spoken, half sung monologue over an infectious techy loop, with post punk bassline and minimalist drum machine. With nods to the early 00's indie, Jamie T, The Streets and Gorillaz, it draws on popular culture with reference to Big Brother, Snapchat and meal deals. “The grass seems a bit greener”, sings Baby… keep producing tracks like these mate, and your grass will be just fine.
BRU - DRAMA
Whitstable’s Bru has come at us with ‘DRAMA’, a chilled track with melodic strings and easy beat, but it has been chopped and reworked to include distorted vocals and unique musical vignettes and offcuts.
Bru says that the track is documenting the drama of romantic relationships when other people get involved. Totally unexpected, but brilliant.
CLAIRE PITT WIGMORE - SKIN
Margate guitarist Claire Pitt Wigmore has released the second single from upcoming EP "Arrhythmia" that'll be out later this year. Having created her own distinctive sound, taking in elements of indie, and shoegaze, Claire’s latest track "Skin" is about her own experiences as a female guitarist in a male dominated industry.
Clearly an emotive subject filled with anger and frustration, Claire sets about doing what she does best, producing a track that others can only dream of.
