Plans for new Tunbridge Wells leisure complex with indoor karting
There could also be a bowling alley, boutique cinema, a virtual reality arcade, laser tag and mini-golf
Plans for an indoor entertainment complex featuring go karting, a bowling alley and a virtual reality arcade in Tunbridge Wells town centre have been unveiled.
The attraction, which would also feature a boutique cinema, could open in the vacant former BHS store at Royal Victoria Place shopping centre.
The three-storey unit has been empty since the retail giant shut up shop in 2016 and Elite Leisure Collection is leading the ambitious plans for the premises.
It is understood the leisure complex, which will boast a 230-metre go kart track with eco-friendly go karts, would open seven days a week.
The £9 million project also includes laser tag, mini-golf and a host of places to eat and drink.
Tunbridge Wells MP Greg Clark says it is fantastic news for the town.
“So often young people in particular say to me that there isn’t enough to do in Tunbridge Wells and if this gets the go ahead, it will provide entertainment for all ages,” he said.
“It should also be a magnet attracting visitors from further afield and provide much needed customers for all the other shops and facilities at the top of the town.”
Elite Leisure Collection, which runs One Warwick Park Hotel, Salomons Estate and Bewl Water, had previously planned to open a two-storey karting circuit off Longfield Road in Tunbridge Wells.
