Packed line-up for Kent’s Youth Takeover Festival unveiled
Hip hop, stand-up comedy, Battle of the Bands and scratch theatre are among the events happening during the one-day GenFest festival in Canterbury
Youth platform ART31 (@art31kent) is bringing GENFest - Kent’s Youth Takeover Festival - to the Gulbenkian (@thegulbenkian) in Canterbury this weekend.
Showcasing up-and-coming local creatives, the event will feature live performances across theatre, dance, music and stand-up comedy.
There’ll also be a live Battle of the Bands, short film screenings and an art exhibition.
Organised by ART31, which takes its name from Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child, the festival is free and for people aged 13 to 25.
ZooNation (@zoonationuk) will be hosting a hip hop dance workshop and freestyle cypher, with beats supplied by a guest DJ.
People Dem Collective (@peopledemcollective) will be there, too, offering festival-goers the chance to get involved in creating a fanzine celebrating Black British icons.
And Unsettled Theatre (@unsettledtheatre) will be hosting storytelling workshops and putting on a scratch performance of The Untold Fable of Fritz.
There will also be free artist-led workshops, including illustration, phone photography, storytelling, theatre devising, puppetry and singing as well as networking sessions where young creatives and professionals can connect.
The festival is on Saturday, June 18, and kicks off at 12.30pm, continuing into a chilled summer evening with live music on the outdoor stage.
All events are free – just book your day ticket and turn up to the events you want to see. Workshops will have limited capacity, so book in advance.
