Always noted in the national press as a top weekend hotel stay when shimmying down to the Kent coast, the Albion House Hotel (@albionhouseramsgate) has has got it all - a splash of stunning architecture, a fizz of amazing views, and a shaker full of amazing new cocktails constructed by Food & Beverage Manager Tom.

While, of course, there are some old favourites, the new cocktail MENU is described as ‘a love letter to Ramsgate’. From the ‘Royal Harbour’ (Makers Mark, Angostura, maple syrup, stirred over ice and served in a rocks glass with orange) to the ‘Ramsgate Tunnels’ (Homemade stem ginger puree shaken with Goslings Black Seal and topped off with Ginger Beer) and the ‘Pegwell Bay’ (Cognac, Limoncello, Vodka & fresh lemon, served with a creme brûlée top) to the ‘Operation Dynamo’ (Havana Club 7 Anos and Remy Martin VSOP stirred over ice with chocolate bitters. Rocks) there’s a bit of Ramsgate past and present in all of them.

“Meet ‘15 Beaches’, one of our new cocktails inspired by local surroundings,” says the team at Albion House. “It takes its name from Thanet's 15 sandy beaches and bays and includes lashings of Tequila, Campari, grapefruit and Vermouth - served long over ice. It's refreshing, fruity and packs a zesty kick that clears through the summer heat beautifully.

“We've released a new selection of cocktails, carefully put together by our Food and Beverage Manager Tom. With an extensive background in cocktail curation from his time managing fine establishments in London, Tom is passionate about delivering high quality drinks which tickle the taste buds and stir up the senses. He has created a list of 19 unique beverages ranging from long, summer fizzes served over ice to short drinks like our chilli margarita with an elderflower twist.“

But that’s not all. The Georgian building, which was once part of the local government buildings, uses the impressive mayor’s chamber as its The Dining Rooms venue.

Head chef Russell Oxtoby, who has worked under some amazing chefs over the years - most notably at QC under Jun Tanaka and Berner’s Tavern under Jason Atherton - has bought an amazing new summer menu to the restaurant, which has a relaxing brasserie feel with some banquette seating, exposed wooden tables and a lively bar atmosphere.

The seasonally-changing menu uses fish from Fruits de Mer in Broadstairs (often landed in the harbour in front of the hotel), meat comes from Chef & Butcher in Broadstairs and the sourdough bread is from Viking Bakehouse in Ramsgate. Sample MENU here.

Some stand-out dishes of the summer menu include the dressed crab with brown crab mayo and sourdough toast; lamb rump and sweetbreads, broccoli and black garlic; and the violet artichokes ala Grecque, Jersey Royals, Borlotti beans and salsa verde.
