REVIEW: The Curry Mistress, Thanet

Known for palate-pleasing pop-ups and supper clubs to savour

Known for palate-pleasing pop-ups and supper clubs to savour, The Curry Mistress (@thecurrymistress) has been bringing indulgent Indian flavours to the likes of Louis On Sea, The Turner and Bar Nothing with a series of Thanet residencies.

Created by Mawi Keivom and Samuel Bonnet back in 2023, The Curry Mistress has been bringing family recipes to spice-loving guests with adapted signature dishes as well as all-time classics. Mawi, who honed her skills in her mother’s kitchen, leans on travels through India to create varied and continuously-changing menus.

Our first experience of the authentic Indian home cooking of The Curry Mistress was at Gather in Ramsgate.

Choosing from a set menu (£40 per person), we had the sweet and spicy bhel puri (puffed rice mixed with potatoes, onions, chat masala and chutney) as well as beautiful onion pakoras.

This was followed by the mains of a classic and creamy butter chicken, with a light and fresh pilau rice. But the show-stealer was the butternut squash with coconut milk and curry leaves (vegan), which had our taste buds in a whole new world of discovery.

Finally, a classic mango ice cream was a typically sweet finish, delivered in a really nice atmosphere. Book ahead… it’s seriously popular!
