Review: Should i visit Thao Thao in Margate?

‘virtuoso Vietnamese Cà Phê delights and concise, kicking menu”

In King Street in Margate’s Old Town, you cannot miss Thao Thao. Apart from having a massive snake as its window artwork, it is becoming known for its virtuoso Vietnamese Cà Phê delights and concise, kicking menu.

Started just over a year ago by French-Vietnamese founder Nathalie Nguyen, who wanted to bring her family’s recipes to the town as a homage to her heritage. The interior is simple and fresh with light wooden chairs and a background of glistening dark-green tiles. The window bar seats offer a great spot to people-watch while you enjoy a Ca Phe Sua Da – beans from Thanet coffee roasters We Are Here, with condensed milk and ice, all brewed inside the Vietnamese phin filter, making for a beautiful sweet and chilled caffeine bosh.

Sticking to the handheld option, we chose the chunky five-spice pork belly Banh Mi. Packed to the rafters with juicy yet crispy pork, the demi baguette is covered in pickles, cucumber, hoisin sauce, spring onion and crispy onions, and significantly spiced up with chilli oil. Face-filling and warm tingling on the lips.

When you visit, and you will visit, look out for the rice noodle bowl with soy tofu and shitake mushrooms because it looks epic. There’s only a few spaces and a couple of chairs outside at Thao Thao, but it is so worth nipping in and noshing up when you see a spot! Kapow!
