Review: Should I visit Grain & Hearth in Faversham?
“sandwiches and toasties that have got the town aligning its lunchtime agenda”
Renowned bakery and cafe Grain & Hearth opened their second site, this time in Gatefield Lane in Faversham, at the back end of 2022, and the queue out the door would suggest they have been baking up a storm ever since.
With all the breads, cakes and pastries baked fresh in the Whitstable store and driven over each morning, the chefs on-site are tasked with preparing the fillings and making sandwiches and toasties that have got the town aligning its lunchtime agenda.
With a couple of house coffees (they use Gentleman Baristas) as high-noon liveners, we took away both a sandwich and a pastry – hey, we like to live a little.
Our sourdough-based hero was led with a spicy Korean chicken, matched with a crunchy green cauliflower forming an amazing texture opposite the tang of fresh rocket. The sourdough, with its melt-in-the-mouth centre and rugged crust, is a siren call to beanie hats everywhere!
The savoury Danish was on fleek, with its wild garlic bitterness, parmesan and moreish salted bread crumb. Get your moustaches around that. Beautiful.
