Between 4th and 14th July more than 50 cultural events will take place in Deal under this year’s theme - French Connections.

Linden Hall Studio will host French artists and French films as well as the songs of Barbara and Brel performed by Jessica Walker. 

The Lighthouse will be the place to be for jazz lovers: with The National Youth Jazz Orchestra, Jeremy Sassoon’s MOJO and Sultan Stevenson all performing, while there will also be a collaboration with The Smugglers Festival to bring Gamelan Lila Cita and Baque Luar to the town.

Poetry and Literature will again take centre stage with writers including Alison Weir, Jonathan Coe, Gavin Esler, Jane Glover and Deborah Moggach all performing at a day of poetry curated by Jacob Sam-la Rose with a special open mic night at The Landmark Centre.  

White Cliffs Symphonic Winds will feature film and gaming music including those from Star Wars, the Great Escape, Back to the Future,  The Greatest Showman and My Fair Lady., as ell as the themes from Assassin’s Creed, Super Mario Brothers and many more.

Each lunchtime there will be concerts with talented young musicians including pianists Gabrielė Sutkutė and Junyan Chen, accordionist Ryan Corbett, guitarist Jack Hancher plus organist Paul Stubbings all sharing music written by Bach celebrating the different seasons of the year. 

Families and young people have much on offer including the opportunity to enter a huge inflatable Whale and explore the tale of sea creatures.

A day of Bach with all his Brandenburg Concertos with Chamber Domaine Orchestra introduced by Sir Nicholas Kenyon and Tom Service.  Wild Opera, will perform Mozart’s Classical Opera The Magic Flute  directed by James Hurley, with live music from a chamber ensemble conducted by Orlando Jopling. Prince Tamino falls in love with Pamina, the kidnapped daughter of the Queen of the Night, and must rescue her. His fantastical journey will transform his understanding of this dream-like world of darkness and light.  The Gardens at Walmer Castle will again welcome The Changeling Theatre Company with a performance of Shakespeare’s Henry V.  Lucy Crowe the international opera singer will delight with a programme covering composers from Handel to Cole Porter.  The full programme is available now on Online booking opens on the 8th April through www.dealmusicandarts.com and at box office open at The Astor Theatre each day from 10.00am to 2.00pm.
