Family Fun Weekend
On Saturday 30th September, activities have a distinct movies theme, to celebrate Curzon’s 5-screen cinema on the site.
On display from 11am to 6pm will be four movie car replicas including Ecto 1 from Ghostbusters, a Jurassic Park Jeep, the Batman Tumbler and Lightning McQueen from Pixar’s Cars. There will be further selfie opportunities with a walk along the red carpet and the chance to win a year’s membership to the Curzon. Five live bands will play throughout the day and a facepainter will be on hand to recreate that movie star look. There will be special screenings of Jurassic Park and Batman at the Curzon cinema, with visitors being encouraged to dress up for the latter as their favourite Batman character (book online at www.curzon.com/venues/canterbury-riverside).
Visitors are also invited to ‘spin the wheel’ for a chance to win some great prizes.
On Sunday 1st October, the events focus on the flora and fauna of the River Stour, which flows alongside the scheme and has been a vital artery for the city for centuries.
There will be special displays by the River Stour Project Group and river dipping ‘safaris’ organised by the Kentish Stour Countryside Partnership. A mini aquarium will showcase some of the invertebrates that call the Great Stour home and children can make a foil embossed artwork using natural resources found along the riverside to take home.
There will be a ‘touch and feel’ table organised by the Wildwood Trust and the opportunity to win a family ticket to the park. In the afternoon, visitors can watch two falconry displays and there will also be Harris hawk meet and greets throughout the day. Visitors can also join in community daffodil plantings along the entrances to the scheme between 11am and 1pm. Returning to the movie theme, look out for special guest appearances by Toy Story’s Woody and Buzz Lightyear as well as a special Curzon Kids Club screening of the movie at 10.30am.
Further details of all activities can be found on Riverside’s website at www.canterburyriverside.co.uk
