Ibrahim Dogus, the founder of the British Kebab Awards, said: “As we recover from the pandemic and navigate life beyond Brexit, we need the kebab industry like never before.
“Throughout the pandemic, kebab businesses have tried hard to continue to provide a good service to their communities. the kebab industry, despite all the difficulties and challenges it faces, has continued to grow from strength to strength. The 11th British Kebab Awards will be even bigger and better than the last one.”
According to the awards, the kebab industry is now estimated to be worth over £2.8bn to the British economy and every day, more than 1.5m kebabs are sold across Britain.
There are now over 20,000 kebab outlets in the UK selling around 2,500 tonnes of lamb and chicken doner a week. There are also around 200 doner kebab manufacturers in the UK, with a turnover in excess of £750m.
