Rochester’s Kaya Meze Bar wins break-through gong
Rochester’s Kaya Meze Bar (@kayamezebar) has won a top gong at the British Kebab Awards 2023.
Finalists from across the UK were competing for 20 awards that were announced at ceremony in London in late February.
Having opened in September last year, the Kaya Meze Bar in Rochester took home the award for Best Newcomer Restaurant 2023 during the ceremony, which is the 11th year in the Awards’ history.
Elsewhere in Medway, Gillingham’s Master Kebabs, Gillingham were Highly Commended in the Best Takeaway Regional Award.
Ibrahim Dogus, the founder of the British Kebab Awards, said: “Kebab eateries are a key part of the local community and it’s great to see so many entries at the end of a year that has tested every business operating in the hospitality sector. Winning the Kebab Awards is a huge achievement given the competition across the country and all outlets should be rightly proud.”
According to the awards, the kebab industry is now estimated to be worth over £2.8bn to the British economy and every day, more than 1.5m kebabs are sold across Britain.
There are now over 20,000 kebab outlets in the UK selling around 2,500 tonnes of lamb and chicken doner a week. There are also around 200 doner kebab manufacturers in the UK, with a turnover in excess of £750m.
