Female-led 'Matchstick Festival' to debut at Sevenoaks venue

The outdoor festival will be made up of a 95% female main stage line-up

Heading to Sevenoaks in August 2024, Matchstick is a brand new music festival aiming to unite music lovers with a unique offering of Pop, Soul, Indie and RnB acts.

A UK first for an outdoor festival, Matchstick will be made up of a 95% female main stage line-up.

Taking place in Little Else's Farm, Sevenoaks, on Saturday 3rd August (12-10pm), the one-day, two-stage festival brings together a bubbling undercurrent of female-led communities.

Outside of the music you can expect dance classes, art installations, a female-led music industry skill share panel and incredible food stalls. Panels featuring women in music (Where Are The Girlbands, BBC Presenters and freelance female creatives) and workshops led by Creative Dance Fitness and Sundown Studios.

Festival Co-Founder Shannon Herbert says that she has long recognised the barriers and isolation women experience in music as an artist herself.

“There are not enough women on top of festival posters or behind the stage and I want to change that’,” she says.

Speaking about a lack of representation among festival headliners “They say it's a problem in the talent pipeline but I think that they're deflecting and I want to prove it. What's more is that there is a real lack of female promoters, especially in London. This has led to a lack of serious attempts to build female-led festivals.”

Matchstick Festival has joined forces with female-led events and communities such as Under The Radar London, Burnt Toast Presents, FU Soul, Sundown Studios and Pindrop UK to curate it’s 2024 line-up.

The festival will bresented by BBC Radio 1's Honor Morrison with a line-up that includes Ellie Dixon, DEJA, Natalie Shay, NEONE The Wonderer, GLOWE, Sacha T, Jess Fitz, Asha Gold, Official Shannon, Claudia Kate, Terrianne, Natalie Gray Kate Bond, Izzii Grace, Jem, LionHaire, Clara Moschetta, Kat, Jarki Monno, BLVCK VIØLET, plus more acts to be announced!
