Kent students compete for The Canterbury Art Prize
1st Prize went to Bobby of The King’s School in the Y10-11 category
At St Edmund’s School, Canterbury, the creative arts are more than just an academic subject - they’re a heartfelt commitment to exploration, expression, and excellence.
Whether in the art studio, the ceramics kiln, or the photography darkroom, our students are encouraged to explore, question, and make—developing their own visual voice through keen guidance and hands-on experimentation St Edmund's School.
In every project, students build not just technique, but imagination and resilience. Our specialist art, photography, ceramics, and digital media faculty guide learners through trial and error, building confidence and curiosity. It’s no surprise that our fine art, ceramics, and photography GCSE and A-Level results consistently reflect this high calibre of creativity St Edmund's School+1.

The Canterbury Art Prize: A Rising Star in Kent’s Arts Scene
Open to school pupils across East Kent—from Years 7 to 13—the Canterbury Art Prize has become a beacon for young artistic talent. With each passing year, submissions soar as the Prize grows in both reach and reputation.
Participants interpret a central theme - in 2025, "Layers" - through any medium: painting, photography (unaltered and original), printmaking, ceramics, or mixed media. Imaginations run wild—whether hyper-realist or abstract—and every entry is accompanied by a short artist statement to share its story.
Finalists aren’t just recognised - they’re celebrated. Winners receive a trophy and £100 cash prize, all works selected are exhibited both during St Edmund’s Festival on the Hill and in the Lilford Gallery in Canterbury .
Together with the Canterbury Auction Galleries, which co-founded and supports the Prize, this initiative brings vibrancy and community spirit to Kent’s young artists.
