Brand new cyclist and walker cafe 'The Hub' opens in Wye, Ashford

Created out of former sea containers, The Hub has transformed a former bus depot

A brand new cafe, aimed at providing a pitstop for local cyclists and walkers, has opened by the River Stour in the picturesque village of Wye.

The Hub (@thehubwye), situated at a former bus depot, has been created out of two recycled shipping containers, channeling its ethos of ‘recycle, re-use and repurpose’ wherever possible.

The tables have been given a second life after Cafe Nero, while the chairs were a donation from a village hall trying to get rid of them.

It’s coffee machine is second hand and many of the building materials were donated to be re-purposed for the project - even down to the plant containers outside. The team have laid down a new nature garden and fresh turf to encourage nature back to what was quite barren land.

“We are making use of local suppliers, in particular coffee roasters, Coldblow Coffee.,” says the team. “We provide a range of hot and cold drinks and locally supplied cakes and pastries, as well as essential cycling consumables such as energy bars and gels.

“The surrounding downs have beautiful trail running, walking and cycling routes, as well as excellent quiet road cycling loops, and we hope that our cafe will become a well known stop-off point to relax, re-fuel and talk to locals about the area.”

Owned by three local business owners, Matt, Keith and Jez, The Hub has been born out of local passion for cycling and officially opened its doors to the public last weekend, with the large outdoor paved area offering a great space for bikes, as well as pushchairs and prams.

Open: Thursday - Sunday: 9am – 5pm

Address: Churchfield Way, Wye, Ashford TN25 5BX, United Kingdom
