Whether you’re naughty but nice or a bit of a Casanova, you’ll find something you love on the menu

You may be a casanova, sweet and innocent or out and out raunchy, but whatever floats your boat you’ll find something for you at Sexy Burger (@the_sexyburger).

Running from the St Lawrence Tavern’s kitchen in Ramsgate, the new food venture is capturing people’s imaginations with its brightly coloured burger buns, delectable flavours and some names which might make the more reserved among us blush.

Set up by Peter Walford with head chef Jake Arniszewski, the pair have developed a unique menu, serving up mouth-watering burgers, with tasty buns, packed with fresh ingredients and homemade sauces.

Peter, who once ran the Jolly Farmer in Manston and has 25 years experience running his own business and cheffing, says he thought up the idea a couple of years ago.

“I went to a restaurant in London called Sexy Fish and I was blown away. It’s totally different to what Sexy Burger is but it gave me the idea for the name.

“We then created the names of the burgers, so we’ve got Casanova, Jiggy With It, Sexy on the Beech, I’m too Sexy and Raunchy.

“Then we started throwing recipes and flavours together. You try them and think ‘wow, that really works’.

“The Signature Sexy Burger isn’t themed but when you look at it in the red/pink bun it signifies what we’re about.

“We’re completely different and unique. The buns and with the names, it’s capturing people’s imaginations and we’re growing quickly.”

So far Sexy Burger isn’t on any platforms, such as Deliveroo or Just Eat, and so its success is down to social media and word of mouth.

“Sexy Burger has its own identity and its own flavours. People love the concept,” explains Peter.

“We’re not just a standard run-of-the-mill burger - you’ve got a certain amount of rump in it, a certain amount of chuck and brisket. We use our own spices and ingredients to produce the pattie.

“All our sauces are homemade and we make everything as much as we can.

“All our desserts are homemade and gluten free. We want it all to be fresh.”

He says the menu is currently being tweaked to replace the Filthy Burger with a Naughty But Nice, and he’s also adding Signature Fries to the mix, loaded with brisket, onions and brie, similar to the Signature Sexy Burger.

He says the vegan Sweet and Innocent plant burger is selling particularly well.

“We’ve got a menu but there have been changes; like with any business you make improvements as you grow before you get the final product.

“So we’re going to make a few tweaks and then that will be our final menu.”

He says the majority of people order food for delivery or collection although there is an option to eat it in the pub.

“The food travels well and that’s what we wanted,” he adds

“We didn’t want the end product to be some sloppy burger. We found a box that protects it and foil that protects the buns. So it feels like it’s straight out of the kitchen and onto your plate.”

He admits he couldn’t have asked for a better start to the business.

“It’s been amazing; we are moving quickly and that’s all just through social media.”

Opening hours are 4pm to 8.30pm last orders from Tuesday to Friday, and 3pm to 8.30pm on Saturdays. Delivery is available across Thanet.
