Calling all ravers! Summer series of electronic music incoming
Space-themed party curators Sector 9 are promising a summer of sci-fi inspired music events to recalibrate the raver’s psyche
They’re the space rave party-makers, creating immersive events featuring some of the best artists and producers from the electronic music industry.
From parties boasting big names such as Skream, My Nu Leng, Prospa, Heidi and Redlight, to hosting underground raves with rising and established UK talent, including Solid Grooves’ DJ and producer Ramin Rezaie, Saffron Stone, Ministry of Sound regular Josh Parkinson and Abode regular Will Wiley.
And now the duo behind Sector 9 (@sector9events), created in 2018 by Lee Suter and Ollie Jackson, are at it again with a packed year ahead involving a series of summer events.
The brand is also a partner for SANDS, a colossal festival which will see some of the biggest industry names from electronic, Jazz and many more, come to Dreamland - promoted by music event pioneers Sound Crash and Eat Your Own Ears.
With Bicep heading up the bill, accompanied by artists such as George Fitzgerald, Floating Points and rising superstar TSHA on the support, SANDS is tipped to be one of the most exhilarating festivals the county has seen.
Sector 9 will also be co-hosting the SANDS after party at Faith in Strangers, with George FitzGerald and local DJs Fantastic Scott and South Deal School.
Sector 9 is influenced by Stanley Kubrick’s unique take on cinematography, producing and marketing shows that have a sci-fi edge.
The aim is to recalibrate the raver’s psyche in a post pandemic world.
The brand’s resident DJs Maribor and Braga Circuit play a key role in the developing sound of Sector 9. And this year there’s even more to come, with some new faces, as promoters Suter and Jackson expand their roster.
This will go hand in hand with an exciting new intimate series of events they’ve set their sights on for the summer.
The pair say guests who attend one of their events can expect a space rave.
“Punters can expect an ensemble of rising and established talent at a range of unique clubs and venues across south east Kent,” Suter explains.
“A lot of work goes into the design and layout of our branding and the nights, which are heavily inspired by sci-fi and in particular Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.
“We try to create an immersive experience for visitors. Whether it’s at larger indoor spaces at Dreamland or more underground intimate raves at the likes of Elsewhere, each night brings something different.
“But one thing stays consistent - a crowd of the best ravers creating a lively atmosphere.”
Suter says Kent has cemented itself as a leading location for music events in recent years.
Margate in particular, he says, has become a very popular and creative town.
“Its gentrification in the last decade has spearheaded Kent’s events industry growth, with Dreamland, Margate Winter Gardens and local independent businesses also playing a key role in that,” he explains.
“Look at some of the events in recent years in Margate alone; Gorillaz, Nile Rogers, Faithless, Sister Sledge, Groove Armada, Basement Jaxx, Bicep, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds - the list goes on.
“Sound Project also recently hosted Andy C in Canterbury.
“That’s before we even mention the new festivals like Dream Valley and Connected.
“The future is certainly bright for the music scene in Kent and the driving factor behind Sector 9 is to continue to build on that.”
He pays tribute to Beat up Music & Coz We Can, which hosted the first large scale outdoor shows in Kent in the 2000s, bringing international talent to the county.
“I think credit has to be paid to those guys for really laying the foundation for a local music scene we all get to enjoy now,” says Suter.
“City Sound Project also curated a tonne of regular popular festivals and club nights in Canterbury and beyond in the last 10 years.
“On top of that, Margate Winter Gardens has consistently brought high profile bands, comedians and artists to the area for decades too, so credit is due there as well.
“Being two local lads, we took and continue to take huge inspiration from those guys.”
