Rochester’s tiniest art gallery launches new installation
The Nucleus team wants to fill the art box with 100 haiku through December
Size isn’t everything and that certainly rings true when it comes to the Medway ArtBox.
It’s small, yes, but it’s quite frankly perfectly formed, located snugly in a BT phone box in Rochester.
The gallery, run by Nucleus Arts, is the high street’s smallest and sits between The Guild Hall Museum and Nucleus Arts and its cafe.
Its December installation - One Hundred Haiku - has already started and is a nod to the amazing work of artist Chiharu Shiota.
The Nucleus team wants to fill the art box with 100 haiku through December. Haiku is a Japanese short form of poetry, using a five seven five syllable pattern, capturing a moment in time and creating a picture in a reader’s mind.
And everyone is being invited to get involved, by writing either an original haiku or copying one onto a postcard-sized piece of paper.
Then either place it in the art box, take a photo and tag @medwayartbox, or send it to Rachel/iPrintedThat, Nucleus Arts, Studio 7, 15a High Street, Rochester, Kent, ME1 1PY.
The Nucleus Team said: “Please tell your friends about MedwayArtBox and let them know they can get involved too and remember you’re brilliant.”
The installation runs until December 21 so don’t leave it too late.
There are some examples of the haikus on their social media if you need some.
