Ashford’s growing live music scene gets a serious boost next month as a new music festival comes to town
Ashford’s growing live music scene gets a serious boost next month as a new music festival comes to town.
Create Music Village (@createmusicvillage) sees a whole month of music events hit some of Ashford's best-loved and innovative venues.
The Create Music Village project is led by Revelation, with funding from Arts Council England and Ashford Borough Council, and features a line-up including everything from beats, electronica and hip hop to rock, folk and indie. The event’s curators include Andre Dack, who runs Ramsgate Music Hall and Ashford’s own Casey Dale, best known for his role with BBC Introducing at Radio Kent.
“My entry to the music industry was trying to bring live music to Ashford, so being involved in curating the line up to the next evolution of Create Festival has felt like the journey has gone full circle,” says Casey. “I’m so excited for Ashford to experience some incredible music right on its doorstep!”
There’s established acts, like a DJ set from the legendary Don Letts plus performances from Turin Brakes and Eddi Reader, through to exciting exclusives from local lads Star. One, post-punk chaos from Snapped Ankles and electronic pop from Guardian “one to watch” BABii.
The Create Music Village consists or four key Ashford venues, Revelation, Coachworks, Macknade and The Glass House, along with a diverse line-up of fringe events including a special series of music-led screenings at Picturehouse.
While all events are ticketed individually, the village concept is centred around the fact that all four core venues are within easy walking distance from each other and the organisers hope the festival will not just celebrate, but also help grow, Ashford’s blossoming live music community.
Returning local lads Star. One say they are excited to be part of such a ground-breaking new event in their former hometown “We can’t wait to play Create Music Festival. I feel like the curation of this festival runs parallel with the rise of talent that we’ve seen Kent producing in the last few years and so to be headlining is an honour. It’s gonna be a homecoming celebration!”.
