One look at the credentials of the team behind the new Artisserie Patisserie (@artisserie_patisserie) in Tenterden and it’s likely you’ll be ditching that New Year diet and hot-footing it down there.

Take a look at their Instagram, with its images of delicate, Parisian-style pastries and bread, and that’s a dead cert.

From choux buns, madeleines, cakes, tarts and macaroons, to delicious breads, the counter of the new premises is something to behold.

The venture is by Chris Underwood and Graham Garrett, quite the dream team in the culinary world.

Underwood is one of the most experienced and renowned pastry chefs in the UK, beginning his career at the luxury Cliveden House in Berkshire.

He has worked in multiple Michelin-starred restaurants including Tom Aikens in Chelsea and was head pastry chef at Fera in Claridge’s Hotel.

He was also executive pastry chef at The Belmond Cadogan Hotel in London.

In 2019 he scoooped Best Contemporary Afternoon Tea in the UK.

Meanwhile, Garrett is known for his renowned business The West House Restaurant with Rooms in Biddenden, which has held a Michelin Star since 2008.

Cheffing wasn’t his first career path however, having been a rock n’ roll drummer for a decade, touring and playing large arenas during the 1980s.

But at 31, he was bitten by the culinary bug and rose through the industry, working with leading chefs Nico Ladenis and Richard Corrigan, cooking for the Queen and at Number 10.

He launched The West House in 2002, has his own consultancy and is also author of autobiographical cookbook Sex, Drugs and Sausage Rolls.

So as you can see, this pair are not a bad addition to Tenderden high street.

They promise to bring “breads and pastries with a difference” to the area.

The bakery is closed on Monday and open Tuesday to Saturday 9am to 5pm, and Sunday 10am to 2pm.
