Big Boys Fine Burgers bags Burger Chef of the Year 2020
Folkestone restaurant takes home gong at National Burger Awards’ Live Competition
Gareth Attwell from Big Boys Fine Burgers in Folkestone has been named Burger Chef of the Year 2020.
The National Burger Awards 2020 Grand Final was held on 19 February at Islington Metal Works in London and was hosted by Christian Stevenson (AKA DJ BBQ).
Sixteen finalists competed in three rounds that saw them cook a Technical Burger, which was made with ingredients supplied by the event’s sponsors; a vegan burger, featuring products from The Meatless Farm Co; and their own-recipe burger that they submitted during the entry process.
While the Double Cheeseburger from London’s Bleecker restaurant was been named the best burger in the UK, it was Kent chef Gareth Attwell who won the Technical challenge.
He said: “The National Burger Awards has been incredible, I’ve loved it. Being up against Bleecker is crazy, that’s my favourite burger. Whenever I’m in London, I go and get one, so just to be in the same competition as them is incredible. Seeing them win just made it for me.”
The Bleecker Double Cheeseburger keeps things simple, made up of two 4oz native breed patties, two slices of American cheese, onion and some Bleecker house sauce.
Guy Greaves from The Botanist cooked up the Vegan Burger of the Year; and Wayne Handley from Bun Club, who won the Bloggers’ Choice Award, an accolade judged by a group of food bloggers from across the hospitality industry.
The National Burger Awards 2020 was sponsored by Americana, Arla Pro, BrewDog, Dalston’s, Danish Crown, Diversey, Electrolux Professional, Frobisher’s, Farm Frites, Hellmann’s, Kühne and The Meatless Farm Co.
