Old Town House by Ezestays channels modern seaside luxury

Classic characteristics have been mingled with contemporary tech

In the heart of Margate’s Old Town, a brand-new luxury getaway is offering a  stunning location for guests to enjoy classic aesthetics seamlessly mixed with innovative mod cons.

Just minutes from Margate’s sandy beaches, Old Town House by Ezestays is exemplary in its attention to detail for both its look and feel and also for knowing exactly what the modern visitor wants from a stay by the sea.

Having been an eyesore for more than a decade, the building was bought at auction by local entrepreneurs and has been painstakingly restored during a mammoth three-year project.

Now comprising eight individual holiday lets, each with their own identity but under the overarching theme of modern seaside luxury, it sits somewhere between a hotel and apartment. The classic characteristics have been mingled with contemporary tech.

One of the few Margate stops to offer aircon in all rooms – a must with our hot and humid summers – the old building has been fully insulated and soundproofed. On our stay, first things first, you have to download the corresponding smartphone app, which gives you access and acts as a digital front door and room key. On entry, chilled music begins to play in an art-deco-inspired hallway.

In the room the alluring roll-top bath and luxury toiletries from local producer Haeckles are instantly enticing for a bit of relaxation.

Classic decor and furniture make for a warming feel, while the inviting beds offer two types of pillow, depending on your preference, and 400 thread count Egyptian cotton. Beautiful.

There is a hotel feel, with rooms fully serviced each day but without all the hassle of lengthy check-ins and check-outs. There isn’t a bar or food facilities, but with the best food and drink Margate has to offer right on the doorstep there are plenty of options for late-night ‘room service’.
