Discover Dover smART Project creative coworking space
Enhancing wellbeing and widening aspirations through creativity and access to art.
The Dover smART Project was set up in 2013 by two local women with a vision to provide creative opportunities and experiences that boost confidence, enhance wellbeing and widen aspirations through creativity and access to art and its benefits.
The motto 'The Future is Yours to Create' applies to everyone it works with and alongside, from young carers to Recycled Teenagers, a group that aims to combat social isolation and provide support for the older members of the community through creative activities.
Its third gallery space recently opened in Dover and will play host to support groups and act as venue for the developing programme of community-driven exhibitions. These exhibitions intend to both nurture and tap into creative expression from all corners of Dover’s community, sharing neglected stories and hidden talent with a wide audience in a professional environment.
The Parent Print Club is one of the recent initiatives to transform lives through art. It gives the parents of Young Carers their own space each week to engage in a creative activity and socialise with other parents in similar positions.
Many of the parents have gone from feeling like they could never create anything to confidently producing exceptional pieces of art for the current exhibition. Each print tells a personal story of endurance, strength and resilience and illustrates the profound impact creativity can have on lives.
The exhibition is open 10am-4pm Monday to Friday at the smART Gallery at 7 Bench Street, Dover, CT16 1JH. All works are £20.
