ARNOLD SCHWARTZMAN’S MASTERPIECES UNVEILED AT THE MARGATE SCHOOL

Schwartzman Gallery opens with an exclusive exhibition by the acclaimed artist

Get ready to immerse yourself in a world of visual storytelling as The Margate School inaugurates its brand-new Schwartzman Gallery with an exclusive exhibition by the acclaimed artist Arnold Schwartzman OBE RDI FRSA.

Schwartzman, a visionary in the realms of graphic design, filmmaking and photography, brings his iconic works to Margate in a stunning showcase that promises to captivate art enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. Known for his striking posters, thought-provoking documentaries (including the 1982 Oscar-winning Genocide) and evocative photographs, Schwartzman’s exhibition is set to be a highlight in the cultural calendar.

The Schwartzman Gallery, named in honour of the artist himself, marks a significant milestone for The Margate School. The new space is dedicated to celebrating contemporary art and design, providing a platform for both established and emerging artists. The gallery is a testament to the town’s burgeoning art scene and The Margate School’s commitment to fostering creativity and innovation.

“We are thrilled to launch the Schwartzman Gallery with an exhibition by Arnold Schwartzman,” says Uwe Derksen, director of The Margate School. “His work embodies the spirit of artistic excellence and creativity that we aim to nurture and promote. This new gallery space will serve as a dynamic hub for the arts, enriching our community and attracting art-lovers from near and far.
“The Margate School’s retrospective exhibition, The Seven Ages of Arnold Schwartzman, will be the first showing in the UK covering the 60 years of my creative output,” says Arnold.
“What can be more appropriate than it to be mounted in the very town that nurtured my love of the visual arts? At age 15 I enrolled at the Thanet School of Art & Crafts in Margate, which became the genesis of the long career that I enjoy to this very day.

“I’m further humbled that The Margate School has chosen to dedicate its gallery in my name. My late parents would have been so proud to learn of this great honour.
“The Margate School has become the rebirth of the past institution that had brought to light my latent talents so many years ago. I am therefore most honoured to continue to serve as the school’s patron.”
The exhibition will run from 23rd September to 14th October, offering a rare opportunity to explore the breadth of Schwartzman’s creative genius.
