editors note:
In these troubled times, it is important to remain positive and keep your brain active ‘cene Magazine presents three special editions to help you get through the lockdown. We are dedicating these editions to local businesses at a time when they are most in need. Without them, we’d be stuffed.
Well, no-one thought we would be here when the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Eve 2019, eh?
The message is to 'Stay Home and Stay Safe' to protect our NHS, and here at ‘cene we want to echo that by providing some light relief for the ‘Lockdown' that is now a big part in many of our lives. Don’t worry, we aren't going to rabbit on about the Covid-19 situation, instead we will just use our front covers to depict some of the totally unexpected changes we are witnessing in our communities right now.
We have crafted three special e-editions of the magazine. Each issue will feature advertising for local businesses that we have placed for free, in a show of support during a very uncertain time for all of us. Please remember them.
Someone said to me the other day that bringing out your greatest hits is an admission that you are past your best… well I say, you bring out some of your greatest hits when a viral pandemic threatens the planet. Some of the features here you may recognise, but there are many that most of you won’t have seen before.
For example, we have in-depth interviews with the likes of West Kent punks Slaves, the bush craft king known as Kent Survival, a proper moody looking butcher from Macknade, and our first ever cover stars Syd Arthur.
Perfect for a Lockdown, Margate Location House shows us some mad interiors, as does the museum of curiosities at the Timber Batts pub, there’s an international boxer and a man obsessed with collecting Adidas trainers.
Fashion comes in the form of shoots with Copperfield, Faker Supply, Quarter Masters and Style Space Columnist Siobhan Maroney’s trip to Bounce Vintage in Folkestone.
Our featured artists include our collage-obsessed cover star 10 Years Time, as well as Margate mischief maker Chu. And there’s so much more… enjoy.
