New Ramsgate Through The Senses festival launches next month
Whether it’s dining in the dark, having a gong bath or meditating with a Reiki master, this three-day event promises to activate all your senses
A new weekend festival designed to awaken each of your five senses and ‘inspire the soul’ launches next month.
Ramsgate Through the Senses (@ramsgatesenses), created to complement the town’s Festival of Sound, promises a host of unique events with pop-ups, dining events, live music and some holistic treatments for the body and mind.
The brains behind this new venture are Gemma Dempsey and Helen Emler, who have more than 40 years of experience in hospitality, theatre, music and radio production between them. They are bringing together brilliant chefs, artists and practitioners to lead the different activities.
It begins on Friday, March 18, with ‘Four by Four’ at the Royal Harbour Brasserie, with signature dishes from Marc-Pierre of Marc-Pierre’s Kitchen, Nomada and Eats ‘n Beats chef Bruce Stratford, and Harbour Brasserie’s own Adrian Mowl.
The food will be paired with drinks by Clive Barlow of Presse Wine Services at The Goods Shed Canterbury.
Over Saturday, March 19 and through to Sunday, March 20, there will be talks and workshops, including immersive theatre, a treasure hunt and cooking demo, and a night of folk music from The Snottledogs and Friends.
Then there’s guided meditation from Reiki master Diana Cox, a foraging walk and lunch by Nick Robinson of The Oast Smokehouse in Sandwich, as well as a gong bath with Bettina Ji.
Perhaps one of the more intriguing events is ‘In the Dark’, a dining experience with a difference, where guests will be served food and drink by chef Bruce Stratford and Clive Barlow in darkened surroundings to enhance taste and smell.
Events will be taking place at venues across the town.
