bOing! Festival returns to Canterbury with extra bounce
Kent’s bOing! International Family Festival is bouncing back this summer! Tickets on sale from 15 June
On August 28 & 29 2021, the annual bOing! International Family Festival will once again welcome the most innovative and exciting performers from across Europe to the Gulbenkian Arts Centre and the beautiful University of Kent campus in Canterbury.
The festival’s new Director, David Sefton, said: “I am very happy to say that Boing is back! As the new Director of the festival and our venues I’m delighted that not only is this much-loved family event back in business, it’s also back with a stellar line-up of international artists, live music and cutting-edge technology.
We’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone back on the campus for the family highlight of the summer. See you in August!”
Highlights at bOing! 2021 include the brilliant Belgium puppeteers Chaliwaté Compagnie and Focus Company with their award-winning show Back Up, transporting us across the artic with a punchy, powerful tale about climate change.
The programme also boasts a preview of a new virtual reality show by Jasmin Vardimon Company based on the tale of Alice In Wonderland, ALICE and Night Out in Nature, a new exhibition designed with audience members with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) in mind from Frozen Light.
bOing! regulars Dybwikdans return to with their new interactive storytelling show for ages 0-18months MOONMoon, inspired by legends myths and legends associated with the moon.
Two outdoor spectaculars will entertain all ages Gandini Juggling’s Smashed2 featuring 80 oranges and 7 watermelons, and Rainbow Ballet, a technicolour parade featuring stilt walkers. Local company and bOing! favourites, Half A String are returning with their new The Lost Colour, a stunning puppetry and energy fuelled performance full of clowning and paint all from on top of a van.
bOing! is free to enter (indoor performances are ticketed at £6) and gives thousands of families from across Kent the chance to experience brilliant theatre, music and dance performance.
Audiences at bOing! 2021 will also find Global Sounds Stage programmed in collaboration with Music For Change, contemporary circus company UPSWING’s playful mix of dance, circus and chairs Catch Me, two fun interactive science based sessions Cool Science from University of Kent STEM, Kent Coffee Festival and much more!
