NEW MUSIC: FT. Will Joseph Cook, The Nightmares, Claire Pitt Wigmore and Cheriton
We have four new songs for you to listen to this week
This Friday, while you are social distancing or even heading back to work, let these new tracks from Kent artists tune your ears in to what the most musically productive county in the country sounds like right now.
We have added all tracks to the ‘cene #KeepitKent Spotify Playlist HERE
THE NIGHTMARES - CREATURE
With the release of their new album '‘See You Later Savages’, (which also had a short run release on cassette!!), The Nightmares have burst out of Ashford to give our Friday morning a beasting with some fuzz heavy punk pop.
Plenty of distortion, punchy guitar riffs, pacy drums and forceful lyrics stride up and down the album boldly, but particularly on track ‘Creature’, which had us reminiscing on early Slaves, Wire and Stiff Little Fingers. It’s a proper face-slapping piece of work. We’ve played it through twice already and it was only released today. Awakening.
WILL JOSEPH COOK - 10X THE FUN
You know it’s a Will Joseph Cook song within seconds of pressing play. An engaging pop production, new track ‘10X The Fun’ should come with a ‘Warning, Addictve’, sign attached. It has all the hallmarks we associate with a WJC track; agreeable melody, unmistakable vocals and fun outlook. It had an element of The Cure’s ‘Close To Me’ in the hook.
Taken from new EP ‘Something To Feel Good About (Part One)’, WJC always conjures up vibrant mental pictures, and seems to find ease in describing situations we have all found ourselves in.
“Im 10x More Fun that the guy you used to talk to”, sings the Tunbridge Wells artist. And I bet he is. Uplifting.
CHERITON - SO IN LOVE
Following on from his seriously well received EP ‘Parallel’ (released in July 2020), indie pop soloist Nick Harrison, better known as CHERITON, is showing no sign of slowing down with releasing new material.
‘So In Love’ is the latest single to warm our hearts, with sumptuous synths, keen vocals, huge production sounds, bursts of energy and a f**king sleep buster of a chorus line. He has been honing his sound with long-term friend and producer Andy Hall Hall, who has also worked with the likes of Bastille. He sounds happy, it makes you happy. We can’t wait to see what’s next. Joyful.
CLAIRE PITT WIGMORE - FULL MOON IN BROAD DAYLIGHT
Melancholic, filled with pondering lyrics, spiking guitar solos and the occasional synth, Margate’s Claire Pitt Wigmore has created another track to occupy your thoughts. Who her attentions and barbs are aimed at, we may never know, but her talent for producing incisive indie music is plainly obvious.
There is some Brit-pop-style Elsatica vocals and plenty of alternative genre invention with a few added background samples… we are into it. Thought provoking.
