NEW MUSIC: FT. RED COAST, GREAT DEFEAT, STAR.ONE, THE LONG FACES & DRAPER
We have five new tracks from Kent artists for this week’s New Music Friday
This Friday, while you are social distancing or even heading back to work, let these new tracks from Kent artists tune your ears in to what the most musically productive county in the country sounds like right now.
We have added all tracks to the ‘cene #KeepitKent Spotify Playlist HERE
STAR.ONE - THIS WAY FT. TRILLARY BANKS
“Ashford DJ and producer duo Star. One have returned with a summer track that reels in both enthusiasts of 90s tune monsters Soul II Soul and fans of the new rap favourite Trillary Banks.
On 'This Way', the pair sample 'Back To Life' as well as 90's RnB classic 'Steelo' by 702, to create a genre-busting track that has a touch of old school garage with piano-led house. Trillary Banks even busts a wicked little verse right at the end. Banger.”
GREAT DEFEAT - GIRLFRIENDS
“Formed through friendships, Great Defeat is a band making good on a drunken promise to form a band together one day. Originally formed in 2014 after years on the indie touring circuit in their respective bands, Great Defeat are Ross Witt (My First Tooth/One Toy Soldier), Warren Mallia (Attika State/Grand Pop), Stu Lloyd (The Social Club) and Folkestone’s Owen Kimm (Elephants).
New album ‘Always Goodbye’ is the culmination of 8 years' work, and is “about being on the edge of something new whilst saying farewell to the past”.
We have picked out track ‘Girlfriends’ for its infectious, fun hooks and fraught vocals. A properly memorable song.”
RED COAST - MARSHMALLOW
“Elements of alt-rock, grunge and more than a fleck of Radiohead, Tunbridge Wells group Red Coast has released a brooding seven-track album ‘Syrup’.
On track “Marshmallow’, shiver-inducing lyrics are paired with bass solos and creamy distortion for a very individual sound that has an air of late Brit-pop. Think the Cardigans mashed up with Suede. It’s new and it’s another exciting group coming out of TW.”
THE LONG FACES - SAIL AWAY
”Having announced their debut EP ‘Documentaries’ this month, former Canterbury locals The Long Faces have pressed on with releasing the new track ‘Sail Away’.
Santana-style guitar rides give way to front man Tom Lane’s post-punk Smiths-esque vocals on a track that sounds like a studio jam that went really, really right.
There’s something very big and international-bound about the song, with a polished outlook you’d associate with a more advanced-in-career act. It’s abstract but so familiar, too.”
