Lucky Chip launches in Margate... and OMG it's good
Award-winning London burger slingers open in Cinque Ports pub at Dreamland
Following on from last year’s food truck trial at Dreamland, London’s Lucky Chip restaurant has sealed the deal on a permanent residency at the Margate park’s seafront pub, Cinque Ports.
Lauded by the likes of the Evening Standard, ShortList, Hot Dinners and E-London, Lucky Chip has been known for being purveyors some of the capital’s most saliva-inducing and instagrammable burgers.
The brand’s fiery ‘El Chapo’ burger even won Time Out magazine’s top patty prize in 2018! So, naturally, when we heard they were adding Margate to their Islington and Tottenham sites, we started our stomach stretching exercises in anticipation.
And thankfully, Team ‘cene was fortunate to be amongst the first to try out as much as we could from the menu!
If you want to go more classic, the cheeseburger is ready to light you up, while the more footloose ‘Kevin Bacon’ offers an aged beef patty, American cheese, ketchup, mustard, pickles and applewood smoked bacon. The ‘Steve Martin’ (The Jerk), heads up the veggie burger options with veg and black bean patty, cheese, jerk sauce and coleslaw.
But, if you had to really push us for an answer of which were our favourites… head for the:
‘Royale Wit Cheese’
Jam packed with bacon, American cheese, tomato, onion, ketchup, mustard, lettuce and special sauce, the Royal Wit Cheese (presumably an ode to the fil Pulp Fiction), is face grippingly flavoursome, with the special sauce releasing so many feel-good food endorphins, you will want to take it home to meet your parents…“mmm, mmmm, that is a tasty burger”.
‘El Chappo’
A spicy Mexican-influenced mother, with smoked bacon, roasted jalapeños, blue cheese and aioli, the ‘El Chapo’ was recommended because of its illustrious history. A kick of spice and beautifully memorable flavour, this burger should never be forced into hiding like its namesake!!!!
There are other large plates to watch out for, like the beef rib with bourbon BBQ sauce; Gus Fring’s chicken burger; aubergine Roma tomato, pecorino and pine nuts; and outlet steaks chimichuuri - but the side orders are almost enough on their own!!
The buffalo cauliflower caused a full scale discussion about not needing hot wings on the menu…seriously, it’s that good. A bowl of salty padron peppers will get the tongue wagging for a pit of Beavertown Neck Oil, while the crispy truffle cheese fries and tater tots (covered in candied bacon, cheese & chipotle mayo), are the perfect accompaniment to any burger.
It is proper smile-as-you-eat food. It will be a winner in Margate.
