POW! Thanet celebrates the power of women and female creativity, and explores women’s issues and feminism. POW! Is Thanet’s major annual multidisciplinary arts festival celebrating International Women’s Day, bringing together artists, venues and organisations across the area to showcase empowering events including performances, exhibitions, workshops and talks with opportunities to get involved. POW! Thanet also works throughout the year with community and school groups. POW! Thanet’s work is open to all.

With the onset of Covid-19 in March, POW! Thanet had to cancel part of the 2020 festival to keep audiences and staff safe. Despite this, the team behind the festival have remained focused on POW!’s mission to facilitate discussions around women’s rights and to celebrate female creativity. The seven local women behind POW! have reimagined the festival’s offering, and continue to plan and produce events for a local and global audience, using online channels where necessary to keep everyone safe and to make events accessible.
#WeMakeEvents has been trending on social media in recent weeks, as part of an international movement to highlight that the live events sector urgently needs support from local governments to survive the Covid-19 crisis.

As the pandemic continues to impact artists, creative practitioners and venues, these online training sessions offer free support to POW’s creative community, to help enhance their knowledge, expertise and self-care.

POW! Thanet is currently waiting to hear back from recent funding applications that it is hoped will secure the 2021 festival. If you are able to and would like to donate to POW! Thanet to help support the festival’s community work throughout the year, the POW! Team invite you to do so on their website at www.powthanet.com Covid-19 crisis.
