JENKINS & SON : Discover the Deal eatery with fresh fish and street food bar
A street-food bar serving hot food from around the globe has taken Jenkins & Son to a new level
A fourth-generation family business in Deal, Jenkins & Son supplies fish and game to the public and trade across Kent and the South East.
Darren is following in the footsteps of his father Steve, grandfather Charlie and great-grandfather, also named Charlie, who started the business from a horse and cart in the 1940s.
In that period, the business has gone from strength to strength by evolving with the times and has outgrown the original little shop at 118 High Street, moving to a new, larger premises just up the road in the old Rooks building.
This has allowed room to expand the range of fresh, local, sustainably-caught fish to include in-house hot-smoked products and daily-made deli delights as well as adding a dry curer to the shop floor.
The freezer is also stuffed full of chef-made meals available to heat and eat at home - seafood platters are a particular favourite and there is even home delivery on most of the products.
Last year, Jenkins & Son won the Destination Fishmonger Award from the National Federation of Fishmongers, while plans for a full restaurant are under way - so watch this space.
